Demolition Derby Rules

These are the final rules as agreed for the Buchanan County Fair Demolition Derby. They are also intended to make it easier for the average amateur derby participant to be competitive on the local level.

2010 Buchanan Country Fair Demolition Derby - Friday, July 16th

Demo starts at 7 p.m. - NO cars inspected after 6:30 - Pit Gate opens at 3 p.m.

3 classes for cars

1.       Small Car Class: 4 cyl front wheel drive 

2.       Mid-Size Class: 6cyl front wheel drive

3.       Big Cars: 8 cyl rear wheel drive

 Note: All rear wheel drive cars must run in the 8 cyl rear wheel drive class.

  • NO ONE IN PITS WITHOUT VISIBLE PIT PASS. MINIMUM AGE 14 TO BE IN PITS.
  • ALL GLASS MUST BE REMOVED, WINDSHIELDS OPTIONAL.
  • ALL CHROME OR PLASTIC TRIM AND MOLDINGS MUST BE REMOVED, INCLUDING PLASTIC GRILLS.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO PROFANE WORDS OR SUGGESTIVE PICTURES WILL BE ALLOWED ON ANY CAR.
  • NO DRINKING OR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, NO FIGHTING. VIOLATORS WILL BE EVICTED. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • JUDGES' DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
  • DRIVERS ONLY AT THE TRACK OR AT THE JUDGES STAND AFTER THE EVENT.
  • PURSE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON CAR COUNT.
  • NO WELDING AT ALL! - EXCEPT FOR SAFETY PURPOSES.
  • HOODS AND TRUNKS MUST OPEN FOR INSPECTION.
  • ANY CAR FOUND TO BE REINFORCED AFTER THE EVENT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. TOP 4 PLACES WILL BE CHECKED.

General Rules – Apply to all classes unless otherwise specified.

These rules apply to all classes. All Rules will be followed, or you will not run. All cars will be inspected. Each driver will receive a copy of the inspection notes .The driver must sign a copy of this inspection. No cars will be worked on after inspection. Late arrivals will pay a $50 entry fee. Trunks and hoods must open for inspection. Any American made sedan or station wagon can be run. No 4X4, ambulances, hearses, trucks, limousines, etc. Foreign cars are allowed in small and midsize classes. Drivers must be 18 years of age. May be asked for proof of age. Driver must wear seat belt and helmet. A shirt and long pants are a must. All Drivers must attend driver’s meeting. Do NOT hit driver’s door! Do NOT use driver’s door as a shield. No hot rodding or speeding in pit area, keep it an idle.– Any open doors will cause disqualification. Simple fires will be put out once with the opportunity to continue to run. A second fire will result in disqualification. No grease, roofing tar or other non automotive coating on frame or body structure. No Sandbagging or holding! You will be disqualified. You must make an aggressive hit once every minute. You will be allowed 2 minutes for restarts and 2 minutes if you are hung up. No alcohol in the pits, if anyone is caught with alcohol, they will be disqualified, this includes pit crew too. Any controversies will be taken up at the driver’s meeting. Absolutely no profane words or pictures will be allowed on any car. Absolutely no one allowed on track except for drivers and authorized personnel. If it doesn’t say you can do it, do not do it! Drivers are expected to know the rules and obey them!

 

Small and Mid Size Car Rules

Small Car Wheel Base – 4 cyl front wheel drive

Mid Size Wheel Base – 6 cyl front wheel drive

 

Mid Size Cars will run in heats with a feature if heats are needed because of high car count.

All cars must be stock, unless modification is stated in the rules. All glass, plastic, chrome, and interior must be removed from the car. All decking in station wagons must be removed! No tire larger than 6 ply. No split rims, studded tires, or tractor lugs. Foam filled, doubled tires and valve stem protectors are okay. Use motor and transmission of any choice, motor must be in stock location. You may chain or weld motor and transmission in place but don’t strengthen frame. You must use a radiator in stock location. All cars must have working brakes. All trailer hitches and braces must be removed. Transmission coolers will be allowed, but must be safe and properly secured. Batteries must be moved to passenger floorboard close to transmission, properly secured and covered. No seat belts, bungee cords, ratchet straps, or screws allowed to hold batteries in place. Must have a steel strap over the top and bolted to floor with no less than 3/8”bolt.No more than 2 – 12volt car batteries allowed. Driver’s door may be welded solid at the rear seam only. May not weld front seam to fender. You may only weld driver’s door. No pipes, bars, or grader blades allowed on outside of door. Will allow a 6 inch wide piece of flat steel securely fastened. Not to exceed 4”past rear door seam. Do NOT weld on the frame or frame seams, factory seams only. No home made body seams. You may weld an X behind driver’s seat from doorpost to doorpost. You can have a bar across the dash and connect the dash bar to the bar behind the seat across the inside of front door only. Drivers and passenger front doors only. Hard top cars may have a roll loop behind the seat and must be weld-ed to floor and bolted to roof. Bumpers must be taken from make of car being derbied. Bumpers may be welded on, but do NOT add any metal. Hood must have a 12”hole cut out in case of fire. Any hole cut in hood may be bolted back together with no more than 4 bolts per hold. You must have hood bolted down with no more than 4 bolts. These can not exceed 5/8”. The front 2 bolts may extend through front body mounts. The rest are sheet metal to sheet metal. Plates for hood bolts not to exceed 3x3. Suspension must be stock. Leaf spring cars must use stock springs. No added leafs in springs. Suspension must be functional. You can run a shifter through floor and you can have a switch panel. If you rerunning an electric fuel pump it must be hooked up to the ignition switch. You may cut wheel wells for tire clearance. Fenders may be bolted back together. Use no more than 5 3/8”bolts.A Vertical bar must be placed on the windshield,3 are recommended for driver protection No body bolts larger than 5/8”.All cars must have a 15”X 15”sign on top of the car with your number on it for judging and recognition. Anything done other than what is listed in the rules, you will be disqualified.

 

 

Car Rules 80 and Newer –

No Weld, Big Car Class

Large Car Wheel Base - 8 cyl rear wheel drive

Original gas tanks must be removed, you must use a boat tank or a well made fuel cell and must be properly secured and covered in seat area. All plastic tanks must be in a steel box and bolted to floor with 3/8”or larger bolts. No seat belts, bungee cords, ratchet straps, or screws allowed to hold tanks in place. Must have a steel strap over the top and bolted to floor with no less than 3/8”bolt.Transmission coolers will be allowed, but must be safe and properly secured. Batteries must be moved to passenger floorboard close to transmission, properly secured and covered. No seat belts, bungee cords, ratchet straps, or screws allowed holding batteries in place. Must have a steel strap over the top and bolted to floor with no less than 3/8”bolt.No more than 2 – 12volt car batteries allowed. Driver’s door may be welded solid at the rear seam only. All full framed cars in all classes must have 1 inch body mount or equivalent spacer not to exceed 4”in diameter. Radiator support may be bolted solid to frame. No body bolts larger than 5/8”.All cars must have a 15”X 15”sign on top of the car with your number on it for judging and recognition. Anything done other than what is listed in the rules, you will be disqualified.

  

If you have any questions, please call official at number below to avoid difficulties. Fuzzy Durey 927-4231 or Tom Amthaur 927-4367 Drivers meeting 30 minutes prior to the derby. All must attend. No exceptions. Allow plenty of time for arrival through traffic. Use pit gate. All demo cars must be removed from the fairgrounds in 24 hours. If unable, must contact fairground personnel. Not responsible for cars left on grounds after 6 pm Saturday.

 

Admission:

Car and Driver Entry Fee $35.00

This includes pit pass.

All other Pit Passes $15.00

Plus Daily admission.

 

 

 

COMBINE DEMO DERBY

Sunday July 18, 2010 2 PM

Buchanan County Fairgrounds, Independence, Iowa

Entry Rules and regulations:

1. Entry form with $50.00 payment must be returned no later than July 13,

2010

2. Derby limited to the first 20 entries.

3. Drivers must be 18 years of age and be able to show proof of age.

4. All drivers and pit crewmembers must sign liability waiver agreement.

5. Drivers must wear seat belt and helmet with face shield.

6. All combines must have cabs.

7. Combines must use a grain table (platform) that is fixed 18" from the

ground. Loss of the platform will result in disqualification from

competition.

8. Combine grain table must have reel, guards, sickle, and loose sheet metal

removed. Combine ladder, unloading auger, and glass must be removed.

Separator will be inoperative. Driver's door must be welded or chained shut.

Safety bars or shields will be added to the front of the cab area for driver

protection.

9. Fuel tank must be mounted on top of the combine (inside the grain tank is

preferred).

10. Batteries must be mounted on top of the combine at least 6' from driver.

11. Tires filled with air only. NO TYPE OF FLUID, FOAM OR CONCRETE. No duals

allowed.

12. All combines are to be ORIGINALLY MANUFACTURED (No reinforced parts or

shields allowed) excepted as outlined in rule 8 from above.

13. A stick must be mounted in the vicinity of the driver. The stick must be

broken off when the driver is disqualified or unable to continue.

14. All combines must be removed from fairground property by Tuesday, July

20, 2010 at noon. After that date and time the discarded combines become

property of the Buchanan County Fairboard.

15. First place $1,000 and runner-up $750.
