With only one week remaining the action was intense at the Independence Motor Speedway.
The first race of the night was the IMCA Stock Cars were it was a down to a bumper finish as Phil Holtz took the win. From the start of the race it seemed as bumper to bumper side by side was how the race was going to be ran. It was a battle of the three’s as Jarod Weepie and Jason Hocken were back and forth for the early lead. Norman Chesmore and Holtz were side by side for third. Just under the halfway point Holtz shot to the lead with Chesmore in second. Brian Irvine was working the high groove and into third place. Holtz, Chesmore and Irvine were three wide with five laps remaining. Irvine had moved into second and was running the high groove with Holtz low. Holtz just inched passed Irvine for the win. Irvine was a very close second with Chesmore rounding out the top three.
A first victory for Ronn Laurtizen took place in the IMCA Modifieds. Tony Snyder and Shawn Ryan was the two in charge with Jerry Luloff and Tony Olson hot on their bumpers. With a caution on lap eight, Laurtizen moved into the third position where he used to his full advantage moving into second and heading towards Snyder. Just passed the halfway point a battle for third between, Darin Duffy, Joey Schaefer and Vern Jackson took place. With five laps remaining Laurtizen powered away from the rest of the field and off to his first victory. Ryan, Schaefer and Duffy followed.
Rick Wendling powered to a victory in the IMCA Late Models. With the first corner causing the worst wreck of the night the race continued as Jared Fuller held the early lead with Wendling hot on his bumper. Wendling was working the low groove and shot passed Fuller before the halfway point. Wendling had worked into lapped traffic as Fuller and Darin Burco were trying to reel him him. Wendling dominated to the checkers, Fuller and Burco followed.
While it was his third night to the track, Austin Kaplan scored his second victory of the season in the IMCA SportMods. Jeramia Boynton was in the early lead as Kaplan and Chris Luloff were back and forth for third. A caution on lap five led to Kaplan to be hot on Boynton’s bumper. Kaplan shot low and to the lead on lap six and never looked back. Lucas Lundry had moved into third just passed the halfway point. A caution on lap ten gave Boynton and Jim Buhlman one last chance to catch Kaplan. With the white waving Buhlman shot under Boynton for second. Kaplan took the checkers followed by, Buhlman and Bonyton.
Mark Butler found victory lane in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Similar to the Late Models the Hobby Stocks had a rough beginning to the event. When the race resumed Russell Damme was in charge but it didn’t take long for Butler to take the top spot. When the halfway point passed Justin Hanson was working the low grove and gaining on Butler. Hanson and Butler were back and forth for the lead and a caution on lap twelve had Hanson in the top spot. The restart played a big role as Butler was able to shoot pass Hanson. Bumping began on the white lap but Butler held on for the win, Hanson and Damme followed.
