Despite all the rain the night before the races at Independence Motor Speedway took place.
While it might have been his first night racing at the track, it wasn’t his first victory. Austin Kaplan clinched the victory in the IMCA SportMods. It all started with a great run on lap three using the low line for Kaplan to move into the lead. Scott Thomas was holding onto second as a three car battle for third was taking place. Just past the halfway point a caution took place allowing Thomas, Dave Schulze and Joel Rust within sight of Kaplan. Kaplan pulled away from the field with the green in the air. Kaplan took the checkers as Rust and Kaleb Bentley followed.
Darin Duffy is on a roll in the IMCA Modifieds as he took another win. Duffy started toward the back of the field and lap after lap advanced through the tough field of cars. Jeff Kriz seemed to be in control of the race but cautions kept the field bunched and helped Duffy power toward the front and by lap six he was the new leader. Johnathan Thimmesch and Troy Cordes were running third and fourth as the Independence Icon Jerry Luloff worked the low line against Cordes. With the white waving a three car chase for second was taking place. Duffy pulled away from the field and took the win, Cordes, Max Corporon and Thimmesch followed.
Flyin’ Brian Irvine took the checkers first in the IMCA Stock Cars. Norman Chesmore held on to the lead for the first few laps as Jason Hocken and Justin Temeyer were side by side for second until the second caution of the night. Chesmore was running the high line with Irvine working the low line and at the halfway point Irvine powered into first. Irvine pulled away from the field with Chesmore and Jarod Weepie chasing him. Irvine took the win and Chesmore, Temeyer and Weepie rounded out the top four.
Quinton Miller took the checkers with a time expired race in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Mark Butler was holding onto the lead until Justin Lichty used the low line to slide pass Butler just before the halfway point. Cautions plagued lap eight as Lichty pulled away with Adam Cline hot on his bumper. Cline worked passed Lichty and a couple laps later Lichty and Cline bumped causing both to go to the rear. With the time limit expired. Miller took command of the lead and, with a caution ending the race early, Miller won. Josh Irvine and Butler rounded out the top three.
Chad Lerch held on for the victory in the IMCA Late Models. The start of the race was rough as points leader Darren Ackerman rolled on the front stretch. After the clean up, Tom Struve took command of the race. Lerch made use of the line he found and shot to the front. Struve now had Luke Goedert and Curt Martin hot on his bumper. Lerch pulled away from the field even with cautions keeping the race tight. Goedert and Martin ran second and third.
