A packed grandstand and 120 cars were at the Independence Motor Speedway for the Dick Frye Memorial.

Justin Temeyer was the first driver of the night to take home the checkers in the IMCA Stock Cars. Temeyer started in the third row and by the second lap had moved into first. Dan Trimble had moved into second as Tony Schimmels had Phil Holtz hot on his tail for third. Trimble was gaining on Temeyer as they approached lapped traffic but Temeyer held on. Five laps to go the caution flagged waved giving Trimble one last chance to catch Temeyer. Temeyer held on to the checkers, Trimble and Holtz rounded out the top three.

Another win occurred for IMCA Modified driver Darin Duffy as he took command early in the race. Jason Snyder seemed to be on the track for another win as he held the lead for the first few laps. Johnathan Thimmesch was hot on Snyder’s bumper as Duffy moved through the field using the low line. Thimmesch moved into the lead but Duffy went low and took the lead from Thimmesch. Just under the halfway point Duffy had pulled away from the field. A caution on lap 12 bunched the field and giving Thimmesch another chance on Duffy. J.D. Auringer used the caution to his full advantage as he powered his way to the front and right behind Duffy. With the laps winding down Duffy took the checkers, Auringer and Thimmesch rounded out the top three.

Lucas Lundry took home the trophy for the first time in the IMCA SportMods. Lundry moved into the lead on lap two and never looked back. Russell Hesse kept Lundry in his sites as Joel Rust was challenging for the second position. Single file at the halfway point helped Lundry pull slightly away from the field but Rust was looking to close the gap. Lundry was too tough as he took the checkers first, Rust, Hesse and Duane Van Deest followed.

Josh Irvine seems to have command in the IMCA Hobby Stocks as he powered to another victory. Matt Burmeister held onto the lead early in the race but back in the pack Irvine was using the low line and advancing through the field. On lap nine Irvine shot low and was into first place. A caution on lap 11 now placed Wes Stanek Jr. and Burmeister on Irvine’s bumper. Justin Hanson had moved into third with 3 laps to go. Checkers in the air Irvine crossed first followed by Stanek, Hanson and Jeremiah Wilson rounded out the top four.

The last race of the night was the IMCA Late Models were Darren Ackerman took home the trophy. With cautions filling the first few laps Ackerman went to the low line and into the lead on lap three from Scott Welsh. Ackerman powered away from the field and near the halfway point into lapped traffic. Travis Smock and Darin Burco challenged each other for second. Jon Passick moved into fourth as Tysus Pattee was holding on to fifth. Ackerman took the dominating win. Smock, Burco, Passick and Pattee rounded out the top five.
